Because I know she’ll be disappointed in me
How do you explain to a child that you did the best you could?
How do you explain that the man who fell in love with her didn’t stay?
How do you explain that God showed her a path of escape and she took it?
How do you explain what you can’t even explain to yourself?
You can’t
So, her and I sit together
She’ll chatter on about all her dreams
And the man she will meet
But I stay silent as a stone
I can’t answer her questions
But I also can’t leave her alone
